About 5E
We’re not a big builder and we see that as an advantage. Every project matters and we are personally involved in every project that 5E undertakes. We take pride in what we do and we build houses and strong working relationships with our clients. At 5E we build to the same standard that we would expect from a builder for our own homes. We believe in open communication and partnerships between ourselves and our clients. We aim to put the same time, energy and quality into each and every project as if it were our own.

Erik Drentlaw

Erik originally graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Horticulture with an emphasis on turf management. After graduating he helped design/build golf courses in Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Texas, Florida, St. Kitts (West Indies), and the 7th Course at St. Andrews, Scotland now known as the Castle Course. After building golf courses for many years he decided to go back to school this time at Texas A&M with a degree in Construction Science. After graduating a second time Erik wanted to settle down with his Wife in her hometown of Richardson TX, where they now reside with three children Eileen, Eveline and Eason, together they make the 5E’s. During that time he also became the lead superintendent for a multifamily developer here in Dallas and has been building Class A Luxury Apartments. As a Lead Superintendent Erik was responsible for overseeing $50m plus projects, including managing other superintendents, subcontractors, Architects/Consultants/Engineers on building styles ranging from garage wraps to podiums and even high rises with up to 385 units per building. Somewhere along the way he also developed a strong passion for building and remodeling homes, investing in real estate, and building a business together with his business partner Dane. You can find Erik with his family, working, or out looking at houses!

The Process
Every house is different and every project is unique. Building and remodeling is a huge investment, in your home and the community, and we don’t take that lightly. We start the process by getting to know our customers and listening to their story! Once we fully understand their vision we engage an architect and start working through drawings. Through several meetings with the architect we put together a preliminary estimate. During these meetings we also review finishes and develop allowances. The next step would then be a final estimate and the construction contract. The timing can be different depending on each project but from the first meeting to construction can take several months including permitting. Once every little detail is worked out and the design is complete we get started! Contact us today, we would love the chance to serve you!
